Privacy Policy
Your files stay on your Mac.
In short: TheCleanDisk does not collect, store, sell or share your personal data. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Scanning, cleaning and the assistant all run on your Mac, and nothing about your files is sent to us or anyone else.
Who we are
TheCleanDisk is made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). For anything about privacy, email support@thecleandisk.com.
What the app does with your files
To show what takes up space, the app reads the names, sizes and dates of files and folders, plus information macOS provides about your disk, memory, CPU, battery, installed apps and built-in security settings. To confirm exact duplicates and show previews, it also reads the contents of the files involved. All of this happens on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.
macOS protects some folders, such as Desktop, Documents and Downloads. If you turn on Full Disk Access for TheCleanDisk in System Settings › Privacy & Security, the scan can see those folders too. It still only reads, and you can turn access off at any time.
What the app keeps on your Mac
- Settings, such as your cleanup preferences.
- Quarantine: items you choose to clean are moved to the app's own folder on your Mac for the period you set (7 days by default) so you can restore them. After that they are deleted.
- History: a list of what was cleaned and how much space it freed.
This stays on your Mac. To remove it, empty quarantine and clear history in the app, then delete the app and its folder in ~/Library/Containers.
The assistant and Automations
The assistant answers questions from your latest scan, on your Mac. Your questions and file information are not sent to us or to any third party.
If you turn on Automations, a small menu-bar companion runs scheduled read-only scans and shows notifications on your Mac. Automations never remove anything and send nothing anywhere.
iCloud
When you remove the downloaded copy of an iCloud Drive file, the app asks macOS to remove only the local copy. The file stays in your iCloud account. The app never signs in to, reads or changes your iCloud account.
Data we collect
None through the app. It contains no third-party SDKs, no advertising, no analytics, no cookies and no device identifiers.
Purchases and downloads are handled by Apple through the Mac App Store. We don't receive your payment details. If you've chosen in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. These don't identify you.
If you email us
Messages to support@thecleandisk.com are forwarded by Cloudflare to our mailbox, which is hosted by Google. We use your email address and message only to reply to you, keep them only as long as needed to help, and delete them if you ask.
This website
thecleandisk.com is a static website. It has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we don't set cookies. The site is delivered by Cloudflare, which processes standard technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect against abuse, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check for abusive traffic. Your rights
We don't sell or share personal information, and the app keeps your data on your Mac, where you control it. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA give you rights to access or delete personal data. For emails you've sent us, contact us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
TheCleanDisk is a general-audience utility and doesn't collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever needs to collect data, we'll update this policy first and ask for your permission in the app.
